Stear clear from net traps

"A number of cyber crimes have been reported in the resent past"

How often do you get an email saying that you have won $3 billion at a lottery in the United Kingdom or the sole beneficiary of a large sum of wealth? Well the first thing you should realise that it's fake. Nothing in this would comes free.

"There is nothing called free breakfast"

Many youngsters are trapped in those kind of scams. Even the people who know its just a scam are trapped in all sort of things. Here are a few tips for you to remain safe while working on the internet.

 E-Banking

With the number of banks offering you e-banking service these days, a lot of net savvy criminals have started creating websites that look exactly like the original website, these websites have a net address very similar to that of the original so if you do make a typo while typing in the web address these sites will ask for your ID and password. After they get this, the site has full access to your bank details and can even transfer your whole balance. While conducting e-banking be careful while typing in the address of the site. Make sure to type 'HttpS' rather than just 'Http' this makes it sure that the transactions you carry out are done securely. Kepp the anti-fishing filter on the browser on. Most of the people try these things by making use of fising.

E-Commerce

While purchasing stuff on popular websites that allow you to transact goods, there are a lot of chances for you to be cheated if you dont carry out your transactions carefully. Never let the browser remeber your credit card number. If your carrying out the purchase from a cyber cafe be careful that you log out properly from the website. Always remember to delete history from the browser that can be done by simply navigating Tool->Clear Private Data and selecting ALL on the firefox browser or in IE& clicking on Tools and selecting 'Delete Browsing History'. Also make sure the cybercafe is a recognised one, it may be possible that a keylogger may installed to that PC. It must be chaecked that a proper antivirus is used by the owner, becuase these days this is one of the common practice of the newbie's to install keyloggers in cybercafes to hack someone's details. So better be carefull.

Lotteries

Many Indians receive letters in their email and even in snail mail that they are winners to billions of pounds or dollars. It's all fake and an attemt to lure the gullible into parting with their financial details like bank account numbers and some money. Remember one simple rule, you can never win a lottery if you haven't given any money. It's as simple as that.

Also try praticing that, always use search engines to visit any site. Like you want to check your mail account, suppose you have a gmail account, so open any search engine you prefer, and then search gmail and visit that site from the link, and then log in your account.

Also while checking your emails, never ever click any suspicious mails, this might result in installing a remote keylogger to your computer, and then your logs may be mailed to the person who sent that keylogger to you. Even if you use anivirus and firewalls, then also some of the keyloggers are not detected by those antiviruses.

Start practicing these and have a safe internet life.
