IIT-Delhi, IIT-Bombay in world’s top 200 institutes list

This had been great moment for every Indian student. When the list for top 200 institutes announced, every student here is expecting at least some
presence of Indian institutes in this list. Last year in the list of top 400 institutes's list IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay manage to find a place in the list. The two institutes had been the only Indian institutes on the top 400 list put out by the survey last year. IIT-Delhi had stood at the 254th position in 2007 while IIT-Bombay was at 269th spot.

The only two Indian institutes that have notched a place amongst the top 200 universities ranked by the Times Higher Education-QS World University Ranking survey for 2008 are IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay. The institutes have been ranked 154 and 174 respectively in a list topped by Harvard University of US.

The list has been topped by Harvard University (United States) followed by Yale University (United States) and University of Cambridge (United Kingdom). The University of Oxford (United Kingdom) has been ranked 4th. Still US and UK dominates the list, but some Asian Universities shows a good potential and makes their way into the list.

Its very disappointing that no Indian institute manage to find a place in top 50 institutes. But happy with the performance that the two institutes increased their ranking a lot. While no Indian university could make a mark on the international rankings largely dominated by UK and US-based varsities, as many as nine Asian institutes are among the top 50 institutes, including three based in Hong Kong. China has as many as five universities in the top 200, with Peking University placed at 50 and Tsinghua University at 56. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Seoul National University are the two new entrants into the list this year.

The Asian institutes are now fighting hard to get themselves noticed. And hope that the day is not far, when some of the Indian institutes fight for the top most spots. But we still need to do a lot in this area, so that more number of students from other countries choose Indian institutes for the higher education. Still many Indian students prefer to go abroad for higher education. US is still the favorite for Indians. But if the education of that standard available to us in India, why should we go abroad for the same.

So the government must think a bit on this, and take some strict actions.

Image Source: Google Images I am pretty sure its hard to believe, but its true, that India has offered 800 sheep and 59 yaks to China. 1962 war with China will remain in the memories of most of the Indians. Although China was not able to gain any strategic advantage after the war. Hence China keeps on waiting or rather creating these small issues to take advantage out of them. For this China opened another front in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, but they did not find any reason to start any conflict with India in these reasons. Then comes this missing flock of 800 sheep and 59 yaks besides the allegations of territorial incursions. This let to the build-up Sikkim border conflict between India and China in 1967. This is what China was looking for since 1962 war. Exchanges between the two governments dating back to 1965 reveal that China accused Indian troops of stealing the flock of animals from Tibetan herdsmen
