Wild ‘gourmet sex’ is the key to increased fertility

For couples trying for a baby, here’s some news they can use. While the timing theory still stands tall, the possibility of conception increases if the couple has sex as wild and exciting as when they first met, according to scientists. The indulging in what is being termed ‘gourmet sex’ greatly boosts the chance of having a baby. Gourmet sex is where both partners make the effort to ensure their partner has a satisfying experience. The theory behind better sex boosting the chances of conception is that it improves the quality and quantity of the sperm. It also gives a woman stronger orgasms that makes the sperm more likely to fertilise the egg. The research suggests that couples would be better off spicing up their sex lives than paying attention to diets and times of the month.

Often for couples planning a child, sex becomes something like a chore — something they have to do mechanically at periodic intervals. Sex expert Dr Shashank Samak says, “All elements — atmosphere, mood, sexual excitement and romance — are vital. Being mechanical in sex reduces the chances of conceiving. The 14-day ‘fertility’ cycle is not more than a myth and adhering only to it may cause performance anxiety in many men, whereby they either fail to get an erection or an ejaculation. Sex should be fun and looked forward to each time, rather than seen as a means for making babies.”

Couples should have sex in as wild and as thrilling ways as it was when they first met — when they weren’t thinking about babies. That maximises their chances of having one. Among normal cases, a man produces about 250 million sperms during one session of sex. Latest research results show that by greater stimulation through ‘gourmet sex’, the number can go up by 50 per cent. Also, the study claims, it will boost the quality of the sperm as well. Healthier sperm swim better through the female reproductive tract upping their chances of fusing with the egg to form an embryo.

A reproduction expert gives the scientific point of view. “One of the things that men don’t realise is that the more excited they are, the further back in the testicle they are going to draw on reserves [of sperm]. So if you have ‘gourmet sex’, where you really spend time and you make it fun for both partners, that is going to make the man more excited, more stimulated and he is going to ejaculate more sperm — they are healthier sperm.” Moreover, greater sexual excitement in women not only creates stronger orgasms, but also boosts fertility.

The arousal patterns for men and women are different. While it is vertical for men, for women arousal comes gradually. What a man needs to do is play along till his partner is at her peak. Orgasmic contractions will thereby help ‘suck up’ the semen better, raising the chances of fertilisation. While the quantity of sperm may not radically change, what will certainly happen is that the man will ejaculate with a much greater force helping sperms reach closer to the egg. Also remember that Wild sex does not mean violent sex. Sex should be smooth and pleasurable for both partners.
